The power grouping of Nelly Korda and Tony Finau has now been split up after Finau’s last-minute dropout of the upcoming Grant Thornton Invitational.

Finau cited a knee injury that also kept him out of last week’s Hero World Challenge on the PGA Tour.

Finau said on social media Wednesday:

“I am disappointed to have to withdraw from the @gtinvitational as I continue to recover from my knee injury. Playing with @NellyKorda in 2023 was one of the highlights of my year. I look forward to cheering her on this week, and am thankful for her support and understanding as I work on getting fully healthy. I’m grateful to my partner in @GrantThorntonUS for their support and for diversifying our game by bringing the PGA TOUR and LPGA together here in Naples. I look forward to returning to competition in the new year!”

Finau and Korda act as somewhat de-facto hosts of this event, both being sponsored by Grant Thornton as two of the superstars of their respective leagues.

Replacing the six-time PGA Tour Champion will be Daniel Berger, the 31-year-old from Florida who has four career wins. Not a bad way to be dropped into a tournament last minute, with the best player in the world as your partner.
