Nelly Korda has overcome rough weekday moments during the 2024 season, but nothing approaching what happened on the par three 12 Thursday morning at the U.S. Women’s Open.

After a wait of almost 30 minutes on the tough par three 12 tee, Korda hit a shot just a bit long of the green, bouncing into the bunker behind the green. She hit a bunker shot that picked up speed the entire way, eventually falling into the penalty area in front of the green.

This is only where the issues started for Korda.

After a lengthy ruling, determining where she could drop it, she had to hit it over the penalty area. After the first shot came just short on the false front, rolling slowly back into the water, she did the same thing once again.

No surprise, she hit the next one a bit long, then securing an easy two putt.

Korda is sitting at +8 already through only three holes.

Scores will be high at this event, it is playing like a true U.S. Open, and the 12th figures to be a hole players will fear all week. Still, it will be a herculean climb if Korda were to get in contention for her third major championship this week.
