World No. 2 Nelly Korda, still looking for her first win of 2025, rocketed up the leaderboard in round two with a fantastic -8 64.
Korda came into the day needing something miraculous to give herself a shot on the weekend, coming into the day seven strokes back at -1. She got started quick with a solid birdie on the par 5 first and a long birdie putt made on the second hole.
Throughout her front nine, she looked like prime form Nelly, making a lot of clutch putts and hitting five birdies on the front side with just one bogey.
On the back nine, it felt a bit slower for Korda, as her putter cooled a bit, that changed on the finishing stretch as she birdied three of the last four holes. That included a phenomenal up-and-down out of the bunker on the easy par 5 17 and an elite approach shot into the final hole that set up an easy one.
Korda’s stats were ridiculous, as you would expect from a 64. Nelly hit all 14 fairways and had 16 greens in regulation. She was hitting it to solid proximity as well and when she had an opportunity to show off her flashy short game, she took advantage of it. She had just 26 putts for the round to help boost her.
If Korda can get some momentum, especially with the putter, she should have a good shot to walk away with her first win of the season after winning seven times in 2024.
At the time of her round finishing, Korda had the solo lead, but finished well ahead of the leaders who are still on the course that is surrendering many low scores Friday.
