The 2024 Solheim Cup felt like a big momentum boost for Nelly Korda, who was starting to get back in good form over the previous few weeks. Korda seemed loose and with the exception of Sunday, played pretty flawless golf. She has carried that on so far this week at the Kroger Queen City Championship.
Korda shot a -5 67 out in the morning wave. It would be hard to say Korda could have played much better. She hit all 14 fairways, 14 greens and had just 28 putts. She didn’t have any bogeys, and had five birdies. Pretty ho-hum.
On the par five 18th, after a beautiful drive, Korda’s second shot nearly went into the penalty area near the green. She proceeded to hit a beautiful chip shot and hit a great putt to end her round on a positive note with a nice birdie save.
Korda was certainly playing off the energy of her playing partner, Jeeno Thitikul, who currently is in a tie for the lead at -6. Thitikul hit 17 greens in regulation with 29 putts. The 21-year-old from Thailand seems to be in contention every week on tour, and this is no exception.
For Korda, it is a chance to get back on track and win her seventh event of the year, the 15th of her career.
