Nelly Korda announced Monday that she would not be playing in her scheduled appearances the next two weeks in Korea and Malaysia because of an injury.
Korda took to Instagram to disclose that she had suffered a neck injury while practicing recently, which will keep her out of her next two scheduled events.
“I’m disappointed to miss these events and am especially sorry to my fans, who were looking forward to seeing me play. I’m currently resting and working with my team to get better. Thank you for all your support – it truly means the world to me.”
Korda’s inability to play will likely prevent her from eligibility to win the Vare Trophy, which honors the player with the lowest scoring average on the LPGA Tour. She currently ranks No. 2 on the tour in the statistic, just behind Jeeno Thitikul.
Nelly currently has 49 total rounds played in 2024, she needs at least 60 individual rounds. In order to reach that number, she would need to add the Lotte Championship to her schedule. In 2021, Korda had the lowest scoring average on tour but also did not reach the minimum rounds. The Vare Trophy is worth one Hall of Fame point.
Korda can clinch the Player of the Year award next week though, as Ayaka Furue would need to win four of the last five events, while Haeran Ryu would have to win each of the last five to win.
