The second round of the NW Arkansas Championship remains in delay Sunday morning with an uncertain timetable to continue.
Heavy rain on Saturday led to very little second round play, with no groups getting any more than three holes in. According to Golf Channel’s Grant Boone, three more inches of rain fell overnight. That rain has led to Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers to be unplayable Sunday morning.
Boone also said that the LPGA will decide this morning if they will try for the planned 54 holes, or if it will be reduced to 36 holes, which is the minimum it needs to be an official tournament finish. In 2007, the event was reduced to 18 holes, where Stacy Lewis is listed as the unofficial winner.
While little rain is expected soon, about a half an inch in the next 24 hours, today is probably needed if a finish will happen at all. Monday calls for Rain throughout much of the morning, making it undoubtedly even more difficult to find playable conditions. Overall there is a 70% chance of rain for Monday, calling for .8 inches.
At the current moment, Americans Alison Lee and Sarah Schmelzel, both looking for their first LPGA Tour wins, are tied with Japan’s Minami Katsu at -8. This would be critical for Lee in particular, as it gives her a chance to make the CME Tour Championship despite missing the majority of the year after giving birth in the Spring.
