Lydia Ko is the only single-player featured in this Olympic series so far, but that is for good reason. Ko doesn’t come from a strong golf country, but she has made a strong impact on the Olympics. Ko represents New Zealand at the Olympic Games, and is the only person to have more than one medal in women’s golf. In 2016, Ko won the silver medal, in Tokyo, Ko won the bronze medal. Nobody has played better in Olympic golf than Lydia Ko. So, let’s meet the solo representative from New Zealand, Lydia Ko:
LYDIA KO
While Ko was born in South Korea, and currently resides in the United States, she represents New Zealand in golf, where she lived for much of her young life. She has represented the country well, becoming arguably the greatest women’s golfer of the last 15 years. Ko has 20 wins on the LPGA Tour, seven on the Ladies European Tour and two major championships. In addition to that, Ko has won two LPGA Tour Player of the Year awards and three Race to the CME Globe Championships. Ko was anointed the Tiger Woods of women’s golf far too early in her career, and while her accomplishments may seem underwhelming to some, she’s still an all-time great on the tour with the most parity in the world. Ko is only one win away from clinching a spot in the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame, the hardest hall of fame to make in all of sports. A gold medal at the Olympics would be quite the way to cement that spot.
