About 70% through the second round of the 2024 Evian Championship, play was suspended because of storms. After about two hours of delay, the decision was made to postpone the conclusion of the round to Saturday.
The Evian Championship, played in France, already suffers from early start times in the United States, now the end of the second round will be competed in the extremely early hours of the day. This also cuts heavily into the TV times of the event.
At the time of suspension, Ayake Furue of Japan had opened up a three-shot lead after a dominant start to her round. She was -6 through 13 and -12 overall for the tournament.
Australia’s Stephanie Kyriacou and South Korean Haeran Ryu were the closest chasers at -9. One of the first round leaders, Patty Tavatanakit was at -8.
Angela Stanford had emerged as the story of the day, and probably would have preferred continue playing. The 46-year-old, who recently saw her record-setting major start streak snapped, is back in contention in what could be her last major championship appearance. Stanford eagled 9 and birdied 10, 11 and 12 before the horn sounded. She is at -8 for the tournament.
The conclusion of the second round will pick up at 1:30 AM ET, while coverage of the third round will begin at 6:00 AM ET on Golf Channel and Peacock.
