The LPGA is back in the United States for the first time since January after three tournaments on the Asian swing. Here are some things to know about the Seri Pak Championship.
- Ruoning Yin– Ruoning Yin’s breakout season was really started here, as she grabbed her breakthrough victory with a one-stroke win over Georgia Hall. Yin’s final round scorecard was one for the books, as she didn’t have a single par between holes 2 and 10. For the round she had six birdies and five bogeys to shoot -1 70. It was Yin’s first of two wins on the season along with the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
- City of Stars– This is the first of two events in the Los Angeles area this season, along with the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro at Wilshire Country Club the last week of April. This one, taking place roughly a 45-minute drive from Los Angeles, is played in a more costal environment.
- Seri Pak– This is the first time the tournament will be named for LPGA legend, world golf hall-of-famer Se Ri Pak. Pak won 20 LPGA events from 1998-2010, including five majors. Pak is one of the most influential players ever on the LPGA Tour, widely credited with starting the rich tradition of South Korean women’s golf dominance.
- Aon Risk/Reward Challenge– The Aon Risk/Reward Challenge hole at Palos Verdes Golf Club is the par 5 16th. Before two difficult holes to finish, the 16th is scorable, playing as low as 499 yards. There is water to the left of the layup landing area and the green. Two bunkers also protect the putting surface. Defending champion Yin laid up all four rounds, which led to two birdies.
