After shooting a personal best 63 on Thursday, Zhang followed that up with another terrific round on Friday at the Cognizant Founders Cup in Clifton, New Jersey.
Playing in the tough early morning wave, Zhang put together a nearly flawless round for the second day in a row. Shooting a -4 68, with five birdies and one bogey. That is the lone bogey for her first 36 holes on a difficult course.
It makes sense Zhang is well-suited here. She rarely gets herself into much trouble, an important quality to have on the very narrow Upper Montclair Country Club.
Zhang hit 10 fairways this morning, along with 13 greens and had just 27 putts. On 36 holes she has just 52 total putts for the week. On Thursday, she converted an incredible 7/9 putts from 10-15 feet.
She currently holds a four-stroke lead over Madelene Sagström, who just teed off for her second round. If Zhang were to win, it would be her second-career victory, and maybe not so coincidentally, her second in New Jersey.
