Two of the LPGA Tour’s youngest and brightest stars emerged victorious at the Dow Championship, defeating Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho by one stroke on Sunday.
In the LPGA’s lone partners event, it was one of the strongest teams on paper that played the most consistent across the four rounds, leading to their victory. Yin (above) and Thitikul, ranked No. 4 and No. 12 respectively, shot -4 or better every round, impressive considering the two alternate shot days. They saved their best score for Sunday, shooting -8 to come from a little behind and win.
Yin and Thitikul, both just 21-years-old, have plenty of experience in the winner’s circle on tour. For each of them this was their third career victory. It was also a nice comeback tournament, as they have each dealt with injuries that have hampered their games at times.
Thitikul in particular has bounced back well from a thumb injury that kept her out of the first few events of 2024. The 2023 stroke average leader now has five top 10 finishes in eight events played, and is sixth in scoring average.
You’ll see both of these players later this year at the Paris Olympics, as Thitikul will be representing Thailand and Yin will represent China.
