I think one of the under reported stories of the 2023 Solheim Cup, was just how well Allisen Corpuz performed for the United States team. Of all the many Solheim Cup rookies wearing the red, white and blue, she was the most impressive, now she has experience and should have a ton of confidence heading into year two.
After her breakout 2023 campaign, where she won the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach, some might interpret Corpuz’s 2024 season as a bit underwhelming. In reality, it shows just how incredible consistent she is. Corpuz has seven top-20 finishes with three missed cuts. While she has only been in true winning contention a couple times, this past week was her best chance, finishing in a tie for fourth.
The primary mark in her favor was the performance in 2023, and maybe even more importantly, the pairing she found. Stacy Lewis brilliantly paired Corpuz with Nelly Korda in the foursomes sessions. That pairing resulted in a pretty dominant 2-0 record. This is where the Solheim Cup becomes more about performance week-in and week-out on tour. Not only is Corpuz a great player in this format, but she highlights the best player on the team, Korda.
I think American fans should have a lot of confidence in how Corpuz will play and be used. She does everything well and has improved greatly on putting compared to last season. She is one of the more well-rounded players in terms of skill, which gives Lewis a lot of flexibility in how to use her.
