The new owner of the record for longest time between starts in the Solheim Cup for Team USA is Alison Lee, making her first appearance since 2015. Boosted mostly for her late-2023 and early-2024, it is a welcome site to see her back in the red, white and blue.
Almost assuredly Lee was the top player on Stacy Lewis’ list in 2023 who didn’t make the team. She responded strongly to the snub, finishing last season with three consecutive runner-up finishes, and a win on the LET. She picked up where she left off in 2024, with two top-10s in her first three events.
Since that fast start to the season, Lee has cooled considerably. She’s missed the cut in three of her last six events, and has had two top-10s since March. While there’s still been some solid weeks, she hasn’t inspired the level of confidence she would have if this event was taking place in April.
Lee is a great ball-striker that struggles with putting at times, particularly in the last couple of years. She has never won on the LPGA Tour, but I think most agree she is the best player without a title yet.
In her last Solheim Cup, at only 20-years-old, Lee was at the center of controversy with European Captain Suzann Pettersen. This year, she will look for a more positive experience and an improvement on her 1-3 record.
