Entering this season, I don’t think anyone expected Georgia Hall to not qualify for Team Europe automatically. Hall has been a fixture on the LPGA and the Solheim Cup for years, and was seemingly always a given to make the team. Yet, struggles as of late pushed her out of that qualifying group.
Let’s be clear, Hall was never truly in danger of missing this team. While she hasn’t finished in the top 10 of a non-team LPGA event since May of 2023, she has earned her way on this team through years of work. She also pairs well with her childhood friend Charley Hull, one of Europe’s strongest players. They finished fifth this year at the Dow Championship.
Hall has been generally solid in the Solheim Cup, highlighted by 2019, when she went 4-0-0, she has struggled a bit across the last two. She’s paired well with Leona Maguire in four ball going 2-0, something I expect to see more of here. And unlike previous Solheim Cups, I do think captain Pettersen will pair her with Hull.
Hall has a game much like Andrea Lee on Team USA. She isn’t necessarily near the best in the world at anything, but she has a well-rounded game with little weakness. Even with her 2024 struggles, she still ranks solidly in every category.
Like many of the players in this tier, it would not surprise me to see Hall have a winning record, she reminds me a bit of Kupcho on the United States. She has the game and the track record to be successful in this event, but the question marks remain.
