It could be argued that nobody in the entire Solheim Cup has a higher ceiling and a lower floor than Jennifer Kupcho. The 27-year-old American will be playing in her third Solheim Cup of her career, and the previous two couldn’t have been more different.
Kupcho was arguably the strongest American player in the 2021 event. Normally stoic and reserved, Kupcho played with fire, and was a burst of energy for a team who needed it. She partnered terrifically with Lizette Salas, forming the strongest duo on the team and for the week she went 2-1-1.
Then came the 2023 Solheim Cup, which was a bit of a mess for her. She struggled without Salas on the team and only played in three sessions going 0-2-1. She did show a lot of fight in her singles match against Anna Nordqvist, but came out of that with a loss.
Fast forward to 2024 and there is a lot of reason to be optimistic about Kupcho on this team. She has played solid golf all season, with five top-10 finishes and only two missed cuts. Her recent form has been solid, coming off a sixth place finish over the weekend, and the course should suit her game, as captain Stacy Lewis went out of her way to point out.
Maybe most importantly though, she has found a new partner to bring some of that 2021 magic out, Ally Ewing. Kupcho and Ewing paired together at the Dow Championship this year, where they finished runner-up and looked really strong in foursomes in particular. If the Ewing and Kupcho pairing lives up to its potential, we could see some fireworks.
