Andrea Lee’s first Solheim Cup outing in 2023 was far from impressive on paper. She did get a clutch halve in her Sunday Singles match against Georgia Hall that was huge in the late stages. She also got a foursomes win alongside Danielle Kang, who was really an ideal partner for the at times more reserved Lee. Still, she left with a losing record at 1-2-1 that she will need to improve on in year two.
Lee has had a season with some really nice moments. She had three early season top-10 finishes, before her really big moment at the U.S. Women’s Open. There, she was in the final group on Sunday and finished in third place. She also tacked on another top-10 at the Portland Classic, where she has won before, and had a nice showing especially in the first two rounds at The Old Course.
Lee only has one win across her five full seasons on tour, but she has also pretty steadily improved every year. Each of the last two seasons she was the last player to qualify for the team automatically, a testament to her solid play keeping her in that top nine.
She is a really well-rounded player, even despite her distance concerns (she’s No. 157 in driving distance on tour). She doesn’t necessarily excel at anything, but she’s above average in just about everything.
While she may be the lowest ranking American here, she is more a testament to how deep this team potentially is, with 12 players who captain Stacy Lewis should have a lot of confidence in.
