It is really difficult to rank a player like Anna Nordqvist because so much of her impact on a team will be the things we don’t see. Nordqvist will be the unquestioned leader of Team Europe, pulling double duty serving as a vice captain, with this being her ninth-career Solheim Cup, easily the most of anyone on either team.
The reality is that Nordqvist’s season hasn’t been particularly strong, especially as of late. While she does have four top-15 finishes in 2024, she has yet to notch her first top-10. Since the beginning of June, Nordqvist has one top-20 finish and four missed cuts. Nordqvist’s last top 10 was in the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
While Nordqvist does have a lot of past success in the Solheim Cup, her recent results in the event have been among the weakest of her career. Nordqvist went 1-3 in 2023 and and 1-2 in 2019. She went 0-2 alongside Leona Maguire in 2023, the only two Solheim Cup losses for Maguire across her two times playing.
While Nordqvist has had one of her worst ball-striking seasons of her career, she does still bring a major bonus to the team, putting. Even in this relatively weak season, she is still one of the best players in the world with the flat stick, ranking No. 2 in strokes gained putting.
Regardless of her struggles, Nordqvist’s experience and leadership will without a doubt be essential to the Europeans.
