Despite significant injury issues in 2024, Lilia Vu still made the Solheim Cup with ease. The reason? She performs fantastically almost every time she steps onto a golf course.
2023 was a massive breakout for Vu. She won four LPGA Tour events, two of which were major championships at the Chevron Championship and the AIG Women’s Open. She won the LPGA Tour Player of the Year and reached the No. 1 spot in the world.
2024 hasn’t been quite the same, she missed the entire months of April and May. When she returned at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June though, she wasted no time re-establishing herself as one of the best players in the world. She won in her first event back against a tough field.
Since that win, we’ve seen a consistency that we didn’t even really see in 2023. Vu hasn’t missed a cut, and her worst finish on tour was a tie for 26 at the Evian Championship. She has finished runner-up in two of the three majors she has played in, including her most recent event at the AIG Women’s Open.
Vu is a sensational putter, maybe the best on the tour, but the rest of her game sometimes gets overshadowed because of it. There really is no weakness that Vu has other than her driving being pretty average.
The one thing that holds Vu down at No. 5 is her performance in the 2023 Solheim Cup. Vu went 1-3 and really struggled over the first two days. When it came to Sunday, she did have a dominant win over Madelene Sagström, but she’ll have to play better in the partner rounds this time.
