While European Solheim Cup captain Suzann Pettersen’s picks have been heavily scrutinized by many in golf media, Stacy Lewis’ are unlikely to experience the same reactions.

Lewis went chalk in her selections for the Solheim Cup, locking in a team of the 12 highest ranked Americans in the Rolex Rankings, the full team is:

  • Lilia Vu
  • Nelly Korda
  • Allisen Corpuz
  • Megan Khang
  • Jennifer Kupcho
  • Danielle Kang
  • Andrea Lee
  • Lexi Thompson
  • Rose Zhang
  • Ally Ewing (CP)
  • Angel Yin (CP)
  • Cheyenne Knight (CP)

The United States clearly have the on-paper advantage once again, especially with the low Rolex Rankings of Emily Pedersen and Caroline Hedwall.

(Ally Ewing)

Ally Ewing doesn’t yet have a win in 2023, but her season has been trending well as of late despite her weekend collapse at the AIG Women’s Open. She has experience on the Solheim Cup team and is one of the best ball strikers in the world, so this pick seemed like a guarantee.

(Angel Yin)

Speaking of ball-striking, Angel Yin brings it. One of the best long hitters on tour, Yin has had the best season of her career in 2023. Lewis specifically pointed to her strong play in majors as a reason she is here. Yin has finished in the top 30 of every major and the top 10 in two of them.

(Cheyenne Knight)

The one wildcard spot seemed to come down to either Alison Lee or Cheyenne Knight. While Lee has played some of the best golf of her career and is known as a good chemistry piece, I think Lewis made the correct call with Knight. Knight has nine top tens plus a win at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. Outside of Lilia Vu and maybe Allisen Corpuz, I think it could be argued no American has had a stronger season than Knight.

Lewis said she has had this team relatively locked in for the last six weeks. Seeing the full 12, I am not surprised.
