The Situation:
Well, we have a tie ballgame going into Sunday singles after Europe won the fourth session 3-1. We enter the final round at 8-8.
Fourball Takeaways:
- Leona Maguire was dominant today as she and Charley Hull won in a blowout over Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing. Maguire carried the team all day, adding to her young but storied Solheim Cup legacy.
- Ally Ewing did grab some late momentum in that match though, hitting some nice putts to keep the match alive.
- Danielle Kang’s putter was as good as I’ve ever seen it for most of today, and that is saying something since she is one of the best putters on tour. It cooled down late, but still impressive.
- Cheyenne Knight and Angel Yin had a fantastic day, Knight at 2-0 going into singles is a major momentum boost for the Solheim Cup rookie.
- How has Angel Yin not won yet on tour? She has some of the most impressive power on tour and is a really good putter, that combination should be lethal and she showed it can be today.
- Emily Pedersen. So much props. Her selection was heavily criticized, and her first round and a half or so were rough. She has worked through that though and has been one of the best European players in the doubles portion.
- Madelene Sagström gets her first team win in the Solheim Cup, which seems unbelievable but she got it when it mattered most.
- Scores were flying around today as opposed to yesterday, a lot of fun to see, Ciganda and Grant shot 29 on the front nine and were only one up.
- Caroline Hedwall finally showed up and played really well despite the loss. She carried Nordqvist all the way to 18. Just have to question why that was the first time we saw her. Both Hedwall and Gemma Dryburgh only played one match in the doubles portion.
