Morning Foursomes:

  • What a great call by captain Stacy Lewis to send Lexi Thompson and Danielle Kang out there in the first two groups. While many questioned putting the two struggling stars out there, both Kang and Thompson played terrifically, the best they have all season. Momentum is on their side now.
  • Great work by Linn Grant and Maja Stark to stabilize their match against Thompson and Megan Khang. They were down big right off the bat and looked like deer in the headlights. They battled back strong though and took the match to hole 17.
  • Emily Kristine Pedersen and Charley Hull didn’t just look bad, they looked dreadful on the front nine. It will be interesting to see how that impacts both of their games the rest of the way.
  • Leona Maguire remains one of the best Solheim Cup players there is. She battled hard down the stretch to force Allisen Corpuz and Nelly Korda to hole 18.
  • The course is playing tough. We saw a lot of players hitting in penalty areas and not a lot of putts were falling.
  • Suzann Pettersen has her work cut out for her. While being the weaker team on paper has never gotten in the way of the Europeans winning, it’ll be tough to mount a comeback down 4-0 early.
  • Stacy Lewis gets an A+ for session one as a captain. She researched hard and paired brilliantly. She got three rookies experience while playing with steady veterans. She gave her superstars confidence, and now will send out rested Lilia Vu, Jennifer Kupcho and Rose Zhang for the second session.
