Sophia Popov and Asterisk Talley have joined Calabasas resident and UCLA player Caroline Canales as sponsor exemptions into the upcoming JM Eagle LA Championship held at Caballero Country Club in Calabasas.
Popov, who lost her full card this year, was part of one of the more bizarre stories of the year in golf, after an error had originally placed her in the top priority list. This meant she was able to play in three events at the beginning of the season, but was later stripped of the CME points she had earned retroactively.
Popov, a former USC Trojan and the 2020 AIG Women’s Open champion, will now make her fourth start of the season.
“Returning to Los Angeles to compete alongside the best in the world in the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro is an honor, and I can’t wait to tee it up at El Caballero Country Club next week,” said Popov.
Joining Popov is 16-year-old amateur and California native Asterisk Talley. Talley has had a massive last year, becoming one of the biggest names in amateur golf with a runner-up at the U.S. Women’s Amateur, low-am honors at the U.S. Women’s Open and a second-place finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
The JM Eagle LA Championship kicks off next week.
