Playing in big cities like New York and Los Angeles bring opportunities for the LPGA Tour, especially in its recent growth in popularity. In the week leading up to the Cognizant Founders Cup in New Jersey, LPGA Tour players have been in the news.
On May 3rd, world No. 22 Rose Zhang and LPGA legend Michelle Wie West threw out the first pitch at the Yankees game while promoting the upcoming Mizuho Americas Open.
May 6th, the LPGA, Cognizant and No. 14 Megan Khang and No. 72 In Gee Chun rang the opening bell at Nasdaq.
The true moment of the week though, and maybe the most talked about moment in women’s golf this year, of course, was world No. 1 Nelly Korda making history as the first LPGA Tour player ever to attend the Met Gala. She was only the second golfer ever after Tiger Woods in 2013.
Korda’s appearance brings a huge spotlight to the tour, as the Met Gala is one of the most talked about events in the world every year. With the spotlight on Korda, and the Tour in general, growing as her star continues to rise, her appearance at the Met Gala is a big moment for the LPGA.
