The LPGA Tour returns this week to New York City for the third edition of one of the most exciting events on tour, The Mizuho Americas Open. This tournament, held at Liberty National Golf Club and hosted by Michelle Wie West, doubles as an AJGA event as well as an LPGA Tour stop. The course has stunning views and already an impressive roster of winners in Rose Zhang and Nelly Korda. Here are the most likely players to win The Mizuho Americas Open:
No. 5 – Yan Liu – Quietly, Yan Liu is starting to put together a really solid season by stringing together three strong starts over the last few weeks. She’s finished top 10 each of the last three events, and that doesn’t count the JM Eagle LA Championship, where she started strong but faltered over the weekend. Last week in Utah she got better every round, leading to a top five finish. This is a player working with a lot of momentum right now.
No. 4 – Jeeno Thitikul – Any time Jeeno Thitikul is in the field she is a serious threat to win, despite not having any victories on the LPGA Tour in 2025. Thitikul has still been dominant, currently sitting at No. 2 in the Race to the CME Globe Standings and notching five top 10 finishes in seven starts. She is also playing with world No. 1 Nelly Korda this week, and the top two players in the world fed off each other well the last time they were paired in Arizona.
No. 3 – Hannah Green – Hannah Green has also had a quiet start to the year after a real star-making 2024 season. But like Thitikul, she is performing relatively well. Green has three top-10 finishes in six starts and has only missed one cut. She played well here last season, finishing runner-up and is such a consistently well-rounded player, it is tough to see her not contending at a course she feels comfortable on.
No. 2 – Ruoning Yin – I think an argument could be made that entering the final round the last two weeks, Ruoning Yin was probably the favorite to win. Disappointing finishes have led to back-to-back runner ups. This is the tournament she injured her wrist at last season, an injury that impacted her for a portion of the season, so bad memories may be held here. Regardless, Yin is as talented as anyone on the LPGA Tour and is a good momentum player. She is working with a lot of it right now.
No. 1 – Nelly Korda – Will this finally be the week Korda gets into the 2025 winner’s circle? I think so. Entering yet another title defense, Korda is still scoring well, but having trouble avoiding the one bad round. Now, on a course she won, and coming off a big week hosting her own AJGA event, she should be rested and ready to go. I feel confident in her putter change if she continues using the mallet she switched to at The Chevron Championship, especially with a couple weeks of work with it.
