The field at the U.S. Women’s Amateur, held at Bandon Dunes in Oregon, has been cut down to eight. Take a look at the four matchups this afternoon:
1:40 PM pdt. – Arianna Lau vs Brooke Biermann
Arianna Lau has perhaps had the most impressive run so far in this championship, defeating defending champion Rianne Malixi in the round of 64, beating Wake Forest great turned announcer Emilia Doran in the second round and Juli Inkster Award winner Carolina Lopez-Chacarra in the round of 16. She now faces off against Michigan State’s Brooke Biermann, who had to play 41 total holes across her two matchups on Thursday.
1:50 PM pdt. – Lyla Louderbaugh vs Kiara Romero
The young Lyla Louderbaugh, ranked No. 248 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, has been wildly impressive so far. The Kansas Jayhawk has only made hole 17 once in her three matches so far. She gets her biggest test so far though here with Kiara Romero, the Oregon standout who is ranked No. 1 in the WAGR. Romero has had little issue making her way to this stage in the competition, winning each match in a blowout.
2:00 PM pdt. – Ella Scaysbrook vs Taylor Kehoe
For those keeping track, Arianna Lau was the No. 64 seed in the matchplay portion and Ella Scaysbrook was the No. 63 seed. Now they have lasted to here. The Aussie will take on Taylor Kehoe, the second Michigan State player in the final eight. She also played a 23-hole thriller of a playoff to get here.
2:10 PM pdt. – Eila Galitsky vs Megha Ganne
Galitsky may come into this match with less hype than Ganne, arguably the most popular player in the field, but she shouldn’t be overlooked. The Thai player is ranked No. 6 in the WAGR and was a first-team All American at South Carolina as a freshman. She faces Ganne, the Stanford star who is ranked No. 7 in the amateur rankings and has faced some big name opponents already to get here. On paper, this is easily the strongest matchup of the day.
