When listing the great South Korean players of the post-Seri Pak era, some may look over So Yeon Ryu, but she had an incredible career that is coming to an end at The Chevron Championship.

33-year-old Ryu has dominated women’s golf since 2008. Playing on the LPGA of Korea, she has won 10 times since 2008. On the LPGA Tour she has won six times. She has also won on the Japan LPGA and the LET. Her two majors stand out though.

Ryu won the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open in Colorado in a playoff. She also won the 2017 Chevron Championship. At the time it was the ANA Inspiration and held at Mission Springs in the Palm Springs area. Both of her majors were won in playoff holes.

Ryu was at the Chevron Championship champions dinner on April 15, as she gets set to play in her final LPGA Tournament. She announced recently she was retiring from the tour after 15 years. While other greats have been the face of Korean women’s golf, Ryu is a beloved player. Jessica Korda recently listed her as “one of my favorite pairings” on the LPGA Tour.

Ryu is a beloved figure in LPGA circles, and whenever her final walk on 18 happens, it will be a bittersweet moment for fans and fellow players alike.
